A Record Built on Catastrophic Cases

Important Disclosure: The amounts below reflect gross verdicts or settlements. Attorney’s fees and litigation expenses are deducted from each recovery. Results are specific to the facts, injuries, and circumstances of each individual case. Past results do not guarantee or predict a similar outcome in any future case.

Jennifer Stogner has represented individuals and families in some of the most serious catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases handled by Abraham Watkins. Her career began on the BP Texas City explosion litigation, one of the most complex industrial disaster cases in Texas history, and her case experience since then reflects the full range of catastrophic injury work: industrial and petrochemical explosions, 18-wheeler and commercial vehicle collisions, workplace falls and construction site accidents, product defects, drowning deaths, premises liability, traumatic brain injuries, Jones Act and maritime claims, and insurance bad faith.

Over the course of her career, Jennifer has handled cases with values ranging from less than one thousand dollars to more than eighty million dollars, and has secured multi-million dollar results for injured Texans and their families across a wide range of case types. She has been recognized by multiple national organizations for her settlement results, including top-ranked recoveries in premises liability, drowning accidents, workplace accidents, burn injuries, motor vehicle collisions, and personal injury broadly.

Industrial and petrochemical explosion cases: Jennifer’s practice has included representation of clients injured in refinery, chemical plant, and oilfield explosions throughout the Gulf Coast region, a practice area that traces directly to her early career work on the BP Texas City disaster litigation.

Commercial vehicle and 18-wheeler collision cases: Jennifer has represented clients who were catastrophically injured in trucking and commercial vehicle collisions, including cases involving gross negligence in driver hiring, supervision, and vehicle maintenance.

Premises liability and drowning cases: Jennifer has been recognized nationally for top-ranked settlement results in residential premises liability and drowning accident cases, including cases involving apartment complexes, commercial properties, and pool and aquatic facility hazards.

Workplace injury and construction accident cases: Jennifer’s practice includes representation of workers injured on construction sites, in manufacturing facilities, and in industrial settings where employers and contractors failed to maintain safe working conditions.

Product liability and automobile defect cases: Jennifer handles defective product cases with a particular focus on automobile and tire defects, cases that require a deep understanding of engineering standards, product testing, and manufacturer duty obligations.

Built for the Courtroom from the Start

Jennifer O. Stogner was born in Galveston and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, the daughter of an attorney. During college, she worked as a legal secretary for her father, Michael O’Brien, at his Corpus Christi law firm, watching firsthand how seriously injured people navigate a legal system that is rarely built with them in mind. That experience shaped the way she has practiced law ever since.

She graduated from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi in 2002 with a double major in Finance and Accounting, then enrolled at South Texas College of Law Houston, her father’s alma mater, in 2003. At South Texas, she became one of the most decorated student advocates in the school’s history. She competed in 11 national moot court and mock trial tournaments, earned a place on the Dean’s List, received a nomination to the Order of Barristers, and was awarded the Dean’s Outstanding Student Advocate Award. In 2006, in her final semester of law school, she and her trial team, including her now husband Brant Stogner, won both the Regional Championship in Dallas and the National Championship in Miami at the ATLA Student Trial Advocacy Competition, the premier trial advocacy championship in the country.

After earning her J.D. in 2006, Jennifer began her career at a plaintiff’s litigation firm, where she was immediately assigned to the BP Texas City explosion cases, some of the most complex and high-stakes industrial disaster litigation in Texas at the time. That experience, handling multi-party explosion litigation with serious injuries and extraordinary factual complexity, defined the direction of her practice. She has since handled cases on both the plaintiff and defense sides of the docket, representing individuals, small businesses, and large corporations, and that dual experience gives her a distinct advantage in anticipating how the other side prepares and where its vulnerabilities lie.

Jennifer joined Abraham Watkins as Of Counsel in 2018 and was elevated to partner in February 2025. She is married to fellow partner Brant J. Stogner. Together, they have co-tried some of the firm’s largest and most complex catastrophic injury cases, bringing a rare level of coordination and shared courtroom experience to their clients’ most important moments.

Recognized Among Texas's Top Personal Injury Attorneys

Jennifer Stogner has been recognized for legal excellence by the leading rating organizations that evaluate plaintiff trial lawyers. Texas Super Lawyers has named her to the Super Lawyers list from 2021 through 2025. She was selected to the Texas Rising Stars list in 2018 and 2019, a designation reserved for the top 2.5% of attorneys in Texas under age 40 or within the first ten years of practice. Since 2023, she has appeared on both the Up-and-Coming 50: Women Texas Rising Stars and the Up-and-Coming 100: Texas Rising Stars lists. Best Lawyers in America has recognized her for Personal Injury Litigation, Plaintiffs (2024 through 2026) and for Litigation in Insurance (2025 through 2026).

Jennifer has also been recognized by national verdict and settlement tracking organizations for top-ranked results in multiple case categories, including premises liability, residential premises liability, drowning accidents, workplace accidents, burn injuries, motor vehicle collisions, and personal injury broadly. These rankings reflect real case outcomes for real clients, measured against the results achieved by attorneys across the country handling the same types of cases.

Leadership in the Legal Community and Beyond

Jennifer Stogner has been an active leader in the Houston legal community throughout her career. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Houston Trial Lawyers Association since 2017 and is a member of the Houston Bar Association. She served as President of the South Texas College of Law Houston Alumni Association from 2022 through 2024 and continues to serve on its Alumni Board of Directors, maintaining a connection to the school that launched her career and continuing to support the next generation of Texas trial lawyers.

Outside her professional commitments, Jennifer is deeply involved in the communities where she lives and raises her family. She is a member of the Monarch Oaks Community Association and the Monarch Oaks Mom’s Club, and she is an active member of the Gamma Phi Beta Alumnae chapter in Houston. She holds a first-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She coaches and competes with her three children, Ryker, Beckett, and Holland, in soccer, baseball, basketball, and anything else competitive, and brings the same discipline and focus to her cases that she brings to everything else in her life.

Jennifer’s approach to her clients comes down to one principle she applies equally to her kids and her cases: safety first, otherwise someone gets hurt. When a corporation, employer, or property owner failed to put safety first and her client paid the price, she takes that personally and prepares accordingly.
