$65,000,000 settlement: A client suffered severe electrical burns in a flooded building following Hurricane Harvey, requiring more than 20 surgeries. The case took six years to resolve, overcame multiple immunity defenses, and reached both the Fifth Circuit and the Texas Supreme Court before settlement. This is the largest single-plaintiff settlement in the history of Abraham Watkins.
$30,190,000 settlement: A client suffered serious injuries in a catastrophic petrochemical refinery explosion. The jury found the defendant 100% responsible for the incident.
$28,000,000 settlement: A pipeline technician suffered spinal and brain injuries in a collision with a negligently operated commercial vehicle. The trucking company was found grossly negligent in its hiring and retention decisions.
$23,000,000 aviation settlement: A client suffered severe spinal injuries after a jet exploded following an emergency evacuation. The case settled during the third week of trial after a pretrial offer of $4.5 million.
$22,707,000 jury verdict: A worker fell more than 20 feet at a job site, fracturing his C-3 vertebra and rendering him quadriplegic after his employer failed to provide required fall protection. Verdict Search recognized this as the largest workplace safety verdict in Texas in 2009. Brant Stogner served as first-chair trial counsel.
$18,000,000 settlement: A 5-year-old child drowned at an apartment complex in Baytown due to a defective pool gate latch. The complex had knowledge of the hazard for years before the incident.
$12,000,000 settlement: A 6-year-old child drowned at a Houston apartment complex due to a defective pool fence design.
$10,300,000 wrongful death settlement: A father in Cypress, Texas was killed by a garbage truck in front of his home. The incident was captured on surveillance footage.
These results span oilfield and refinery explosions, 18-wheeler and commercial truck collisions, aviation accidents, workplace falls, gas explosions, defective products, drowning deaths, premises liability, and wrongful death. Each case involved serious, life-altering injuries or the loss of a family member.
A Houston Attorney Who Has Never Stopped Trying Cases
Brant Stogner grew up in El Campo, Texas, earned a football scholarship to the University of Houston, and transferred to Texas A&M after multiple knee surgeries ended his playing career. He graduated in the top 10% of his class with a B.B.A. in Accounting, then went on to South Texas College of Law Houston, where he compiled one of the most decorated competitive advocacy records in the school’s history. He and his wife, Jennifer, were the 2006 National Champions of the ATLA National Trial Competition, the premier trial advocacy championship in the country. He received the Dean’s Outstanding Student Advocate Award and was inducted into the Order of Barristers.
He began his legal career representing defendants, learning from the inside the strategies that corporations and insurers use to minimize victims’ claims. In 2008, he joined Abraham Watkins as a plaintiff’s attorney and tried 12 cases to jury verdict in his first three years, a pace that has defined his career ever since. He achieved Board Certification in Personal Injury Trial Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2011, at the earliest possible eligibility.
His wife, Jennifer O’Brien Stogner, is a fellow partner at Abraham Watkins, making them one of the rare husband-and-wife trial partnerships in Texas plaintiff law. Together, they have co-tried some of the firm’s most complex and highest-value cases.

He has been an adjunct advocacy professor and varsity mock trial coach at South Texas College of Law Houston continuously since 2006, training the next generation of Texas trial lawyers. He coaches youth sports leagues across the Spring Branch and Timbergrove communities and has handled pro bono family law cases through the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program.
